HVAC Pro Troubleshooting

HVAC Pro Troubleshooting

This course teaches fundamental skills needed to troubleshoot residential and light commercial HVAC refrigeration system and airside problems. In this hands-on inter-active course, technicians learn and practice proven diagnostic techniques that they can apply immediately back on the job. The goal of the courses is to provide technicians with a complete understanding of the mechanical system, its components and to update service personnel with the current practices and procedures relative to new technology and equipment. At completion of the course students will possess the skills and confidence to tackle any mechanical system malfunction but also determine the root cause of the problem to eliminate repeat failures. This course was developed for complete troubleshooting proficiency, which introduces participants to concepts of air conditioning systems, and includes much more “HANDS-ON” lab time with service test equipment and tools.

Course lab exercises include:

  • Hands-on evaluation of an operating residential split system with Puron refrigerant to:

  •  Identify the essential component parts of a refrigeration system and their functional purpose

  •  Measure system refrigerant pressures and temperatures

  •  Calculate system superheat, subcooling and cooling capacity

  •  Calculate refrigerant charge

  •  Air measurement procedures and instrumentation

  •  Measure wet bulb and dry bulb air flow conditions

  •  Airflow calculations

  • Workbook exercises to:

  •  Evaluate system superheat and subcooling and cooling capacity

  •  Evaluate refrigerant charge

  •  Evaluate system airflow

  •  Determine how various system problems affect system refrigerant pressures, superheat, and subcooling

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  •  Predict “NORMAL” operating conditions for an HVAC residential system

  •  Apply and understand the use of pressure enthalpy diagrams

  •  Calculate superheat and subcooling

  •  Calculate refrigerant charge and understand the proper charging methods for HVAC systems

  •  Analyze the properties of air

  •  Measure air flow and calculate system cooling capacity
